Uae Legal Environment

As part of the involvement of global actors in the promotion of environmental knowledge, the Eco-Schools Initiative was launched. It is a global initiative led by the Emirates Wildlife Society in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that aims to promote environmental action in schools. Chapter 4 regulates the protection of the environment from air pollution. Article 48 requires developments to ensure that air emissions are below the limit values set. Article 53 refers to emission standards for petroleum activities, including exploration, drilling, extraction and production. The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Sharjah and um AlQuwain. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the most attractive for foreign investors because of their established infrastructure and business environment. The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) are among the region`s leading financial centres.

Other emirates offer opportunities and all emirates have established economic free trade zones that allow 100% foreign ownership of local business entities. It stipulates that the Federal Ministry of Environment and Water must approve oil companies. The Federal Environment Agency is the general authority for standards, specifications, principles and regulations for the environmental impact assessment of projects and installations applying for permits. Local environmental departments responsible for implementing the provisions of this Regulation as well as relevant local environmental legislation in the respective emirates. Investors may acquire full ownership of all legal forms specified in the Commercial Companies Act, namely public joint-stock companies, private investment companies, limited liability companies, limited partnerships and partnerships.
