She received her bachelor`s degree from the University of Iowa in 1987 and her juris doctor from Creighton University School of Law in 1991. Ms. White has over 25 years of experience and has leveraged her litigation skills as a prosecutor, advocate for victims of abuse in a not-for-profit setting, and in private practice in a variety of legal matters. She has completed training in collaborative law and currently focuses primarily on criminal defense, family law, youth and appellate work.

We also see where we are still falling short: professional representation, where women make up just over half of law school graduates but less than half of the legal workforce, and a much smaller percentage of leadership positions in law firms; the wage gap, where women lawyers earn an average of 85 cents for every dollar earned by men, and the top 10% of female lawyers earn 60% of what their mid-career male counterparts earn; and gender bias, where 82% of female lawyers were mistaken for a lower-level employee and not a single man interviewed said the same. The Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. is seeking a paralegal to work on a newly formed, grant-funded veterans` rights project. We employ lawyers, paralegals, lawyers, administrative and legal advisors who are committed to our mission to provide free legal aid to the Atlanta metropolitan community. Regarding Harris` marriage – Ms. White represented the mother of two young children during a changing of custody.

The case was highly controversial and Ms. White eventually prevailed by obtaining exclusive legal and primary custody of the children for her client, as well as a significant change in child support. The husband in this case was found guilty of violating custody and visitation rules and ordered to pay significant fees and expenses. The use of a custody expert was crucial for a successful outcome. Kimberly went to law school representing tenants facing eviction, and has devoted her entire career to civil law services. In her role as Deputy Director, Kimberly acts as a liaison between clients, employees, the Board of Directors and our legal partners. Kimberly has been with Atlanta Legal Aid for over sixteen years and previously served as Managing Counsel at Clayton & South Fulton for over seven years. Kimberly is also a part-time magistrate judge in Fulton County. Myra Bradwell was the first woman to found and edit a law journal, the Chicago Legal News, and fought (ultimately unsuccessfully) for the right to practice law as a woman. Steve Gottlieb has been a director of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society since 1980.

He began as a summer student and then as a staff lawyer with Legal Aid in the late 1960s. After spending two years at Georgia Legal Services, he returned to Legal Aid as an Associate Director before becoming Director. During his tenure, Legal Aid expanded its core legal services to family, housing, consumer, and benefits clients by increasing staffing and services outside of Atlanta, particularly in Gwinnett and Clayton counties, as well as seniors across the state. Legal Aid has also created new programs to address the needs of vulnerable populations, including people living with AIDS and cancer, people with disabilities, seniors and homeowners exposed to predatory mortgages. He is one of the founders of the Health Law Partnership (HeLP). In 1994, Jane White Taylor became the first female president of the Akron Bar Association. She also served as president of the Ohio State Bar Association and spent years promoting free legal aid to low-income Ohioans through her work with the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation. Roshonda Davis-Baugh is Director of Recruitment and Retention at the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, a part-time judge in DeKalb County Trial Court, and a registered neutral judge in the State of Georgia. Ms.

Davis-Baugh has over 31 years of experience in public interest management, oversight and litigation, particularly in family law and domestic violence. She began her legal career as a staff attorney at Atlanta Legal Aid in June 1990 and has served as General Counsel, Senior Counsel and Acting Deputy Director throughout her career. Ms. Davis-Baugh graduated from St. Louis University School of Law in 1990 and was inducted into the Georgia State Bar in 1991. She received the Dan Bradley Award from the Georgia State Bar in 2018, the Liberty Bell Award from the Gwinnett County Bar Association in 2004, and the David C. Grant from the Faculty of Law, Université Saint-Louis in 1990. With respect to J.M. – Ms. White represented a 16-year-old boy charged with possession of pornography.

She successfully argued that the material was not pornography, and the charges were dismissed. His client avoided a verdict in juvenile court and possible consequences such as the requirement to register as a sex offender. Wife. White has represented numerous clients in the resolution of matrimonial matters, custody and non-compliance cases related to family law matters. Some of their cases were resolved through mediation and others were brought to court. In 1870, Ada Kepley became the first woman in the United States to earn her law degree. She was also one of the first students to attend Princeton University, where she studied English language and literature. State v. White – 903 N.W.2d 331 (Iowa 2017) Ms.

White represented her client who, as a minor, was charged with three different Class B offenses and was released in adult court, where he was sentenced to mandatory prison terms in each case. On appeal of her convictions, Ms. White argued that a mandatory minimum sentence should not be applied to minors and that the criminal court failed to properly investigate the client`s background when ordering the mandatory prison sentence. The case was referred to the District Court, where it was found that the client was immediately eligible for parole without serving the prescribed minimum prison sentence. With respect to Downing`s marriage – Ms. White successfully defended her client in relation to a change in child support and spousal support. The husband stated that there had been a substantial change in circumstances that justified this change. At the hearing, Ms.

White was able to prove that circumstances had not changed since the adoption of the Order in Council and that the applicant had incurred extravagant expenses.
