USD receives about 3,000 applications and accepts about 1/3 of these students. USD`s student body was ranked academically in the top 50 law schools, ranking 49th. The law school is relatively secular and academically on the rise, with some of its specialties being among the top 25 law schools in the national ranking of law schools. USD VICAM hosts the annual Michael Thorsnes International Commercial Arbitration Competition.  The competition serves as preparation for the Willem C. Vis Moot Court Competition. Schapiro is an internationally renowned federalist and author of Polyphonic Federalism: Towards the Protection of Fundamental Rights (University of Chicago Press, 2009). A graduate of Yale Law School, he served as editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal.

The University of San Diego school is the youngest independent institution to rank among the top 100 schools in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Despite the school`s relatively young age, the law school has more than 14,000 alumni in every state and 55 countries. USD centers and institutes are integral to the school`s reputation and ability to retain highly respected faculty. These include 10 centres focusing on issues such as public interest, trade policy, bioethics and energy policy. The law centers also host interdisciplinary academic research for the study of constitutional originalism, law and philosophy, law and religion, as well as calculus, mathematics and law. Their best placement for the highest paid majors is for engineering technology students looking for a high salary. Western Sierra is conveniently located in the center of San Diego and offers many opportunities to learn and apply legal knowledge. The school is within walking distance of many notable attractions such as the Edward J. Schwartz U.S.
Courthouse, City Hall, San Diego County Law Library, and San Diego Superior Courts. The Law School`s Appellate Advocacy Team consists of two boards, the Board of Directors and the Associate Board.  The Appellate Moot Court Board holds two internal competitions each year, the Alumni Torts Moot Court Tournament and the Constitutional Paul A. McLennon Sr., Honors Moot Court Competition. Both competitions are open to all students after the end of the first year. In addition, the Commission organizes the National Criminal Procedure Competition each fall, which is open to national moot court teams from law schools across the country.  The private, independent, non-denominational school is known for its Part-Time Young Girls program, which welcomes working professionals. Instead of the usual full-time course load, Western Sierra students can attend evening classes twice a week while having a full-time or part-time job to support themselves. The courses have small class sizes and comprehensive study that allows graduates to succeed in their legal careers.
California Western School of Law was founded in 1924 as Balboa Law College and has become the oldest law school in San Diego. The quarterly system reduces class sizes and allows students to graduate in two years instead of the usual three years. Cal Western is known nationally for its impressive diversity, with 58% of incoming students identifying as women. U.S. News and World Report placed the school in the top 10 for diversity in the ranking of top law schools. Cal Western`s poor performance in law school scores translates into low eligibility criteria, which allow 65% of applicants. The average admitted student has an LSAT score of just over 150 and a GPA slightly above 3.00. Cal Western offers a variety of programs, courses, and articling placements to help students succeed as lawyers.
